Bangladesh to get $181m grant from Sweden

Updated: 2008-11-10 08:19 DHAKA -- Sweden will provide grant assistance of $181 million to Bangladesh on a 5-year term to help the country improve primary health care and primary education, ensure human rights and democratic good governance and improve urban environment. According to a press statement released here on Sunday, the agreement on the development cooperation was signed between the Bangladesh and Sweden on Sunday. Secretary of Economic Relations Division under the Ministry of Finance Mohammed Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and Swedish Ambassador in Dhaka Britt Hagstrom signed the agreement for their respective governments. Roughly one third of the Swedish development co-operation is channeled via the Ministry of Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs through various multilateral organizations, mainly UN bodies as well as the World Bank, and the regional development banks, the statement said. |
