Updated: 2008-11-04 11:34 RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said Monday that his government would finish an infrastructure program despite challenges brought about by the global financial crisis. In his weekly radio show "Breakfast with the President," Lula assured Brazilians that he would not let the crisis get in the way of the country's investments in the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), which was launched in January 2007, the beginning of his second term. "Obviously, many people thought that due to the international financial crisis, investments in the PAC projects would fall. This is not going to happen," he said. "We believe that one of the ways to face the financial crisis is to strengthen the infrastructure projects and the domestic market as well," Lula added. He said that by 2010, the last year of his second term, the majority of PAC projects would be finished. |
