10 gunmen killed, 3 police injured in Mexico gunfire

MEXICO CITY -- Ten gunmen were shot dead and three policemen and three civilians were injured in a gunfire in northern Mexico, local authorities said Friday.

The incident took place early Thursday morning in Nogales City, Mexico's Sonora state, according to the statement of local prosecutive authority.

The policemen were checking a suspicious car when the gunmen on another vehicle rushed to them and opened fire. The police shot back and the cross fire resulted in the death of 10 criminals and injury of three policemen.

Three civilians also got light injury with stray bullets.

Violent crimes have become more fierce in Mexico, with 17 people killed on Thursday alone across the country.
