ISLAMABAD -- At least 20 people were killed in a road accident in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province on Friday.

The accident occurred when a passenger bus collided with a trailer while overtaking near Lodhran city in Punjab, killing at least 20 people and injuring 25 others, official Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported.

The News Network International news agency quoted police sources as saying that 11 children were among the dead.

Some injured said the bus was in high speed and the driver could not control it. Thus it had a head-on collision with the trailer which was carrying fertilizers.

Witnesses said that the bus was completely destroyed in the accident.

Doctors said that several injured are in critical condition and death toll may rise.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani expressed sympathy over the bereaved families.
