Zambia to reopen bids for oil exploration
(Xinhua)
Updated: 2008-10-07 16:00 LUSAKA -- Zambia will reopen bids for oil exploration in North Western Province in December following the passing of the Petroleum Act last month, local media reported on Tuesday. Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Permanent Secretary Leonard Nkhata was quoted as saying that Zambia suspended bids because the existing law was inadequate, particularly on environmental regulations. He said the ministry had received inquiries from America, Russia, China and South Africa on the proposed exploration of oil and gas in the country. He said the Petroleum Committee would oversee the invitation to tender for the bids because it is mandated by law. |
