BOGOTA -- The Colombian army has seized 1 kg of powerful explosives in the country's south after receiving a tip-off, it said in a communique released Friday.

The army also seized shrapnel with an electric detonator in the municipality of Puerto Leguizamo, the communique said.

The explosives belonged to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), which is carrying out a campaign of intimidation with explosives attacks, the army alleged.

"The National Army has cracked down on the terrorist plans of the FARC against people and government forces in Puerto Leguizamo, "the communique said.

FARC is the Colombia's largest guerilla outfit and main military target of the national military forces' official security plan.
