SEOUL -- S. Korea and Japan agreed to strengthen cooperation amid global economic downturn during their 7th round of high-level talks for boosting economic ties, the Korea Herald reported Friday.

According to South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the two sides exchanged information about their current market conditions along with their economy and trade policies.

The ministry said the two countries agreed to strengthen economic ties in the areas such as parts and raw materials as well as energy efficiency.

After the high-level economic talks, the two sides held working-level talks on the challenges of bilateral trade and investment and issues of intellectual property rights.

The ministry said that the 8th round talks will be held in Tokyo next year, although the exact date is yet to be confirmed.
