Big baby weighs an eight-year-old

An 11-month-old baby is causing a stir in Colombia - because he's the average weight of an eight-year-old.

The baby weights 61lbs 12oz (28kg), and his mother, Milena Orosco de Agudelo, said his exponential growth began when he was just two months old.

According to tests, he has an endocrine system problem.

Ms Orosco said: "He had some tests done and the results show that he has a thyroid malfunction.

"Then, he had a cardiogram test done and that test shows that he has the bones of an eight-year-old boy, but they have not told me where that came from."

Doctor David Dias, of the Barranquilla Pediatric Hospital, said the baby is still undergoing testing.

"The baby will have tests done to see if he's obese or we're dealing with hyperthyroidism," he said.

The normal weight for an 11-month-old boy is between six and seven kilogrammes.

Because of his weight, the boy cannot wear his older brother's former clothes and is limited to wearing huge nappies.
