Tropical Storm Fay soaks southwest Florida

Naval Station Key West is at Condition of Readiness 1 as Tropical Storm Fay approaches the Florida Keys, Florida, August 18, 2008. COR 1 is set when a storm has assumed a definite pattern and destructive winds are imminent within 12 hours. Families have been evacuated from low-lying areas of the base and only essential personnel are manning the air station. As of 11:00 a.m. EST, Fay was about 70 miles south-southeast of Key West, Fla., with maximum sustained winds near 60 miles per hour. Fay is moving to the north-northwest near 13 miles per hour.
