MEXICO CITY -- Tropical storm "Fay" moved over the Caribbean Sea, heading toward Cuba and Mexico, Mexican Civil Protection and National Meteorology Service said Sunday.

The two institutions said the tropical storm, at 10:00 am local time (1600 GMT), was located some 865 km east of the Mexican coastal city of Cancun, and some 125 km southeast of Cuba's central city of Camaguey.

According to reports by a local radio station, Fay is producing heavy rains in Miami, Florida, and flights in the International Airport of Miami have been suspended.

Meanwhile in Cuba many towns have been evacuated amid concerns of flash floods.

The Cuban authorities said domestic flights to eastern Cuba have been temporarily suspended.

Meteorologists said that Fay would take strength and become a hurricane during the coming 48 hours.

To the moment the storm has killed three people in Dominican Republic and another one in Haiti.
