Three killed in attack in Thai Muslim South

Updated: 2008-08-12 14:53 BANGKOK -- Suspected Muslim militants killed three members of a family, including two children, on Tuesday in the latest violence in Thailand's troubled south, police said.
A woman was also seriously wounded in the shooting which happened just as the family left a fruit plantation in Narathiwat, one of three provinces where more than 3,000 people have been killed since 2004. The near daily gun and bomb attacks have not stopped since the Thailand United Southern Underground, which claimed to represent 11 insurgent groups, announced a "ceasefire" in July. Security experts had dismissed the announcement, saying it had come from a group which did not have any influence in the region. |
