Updated: 2008-08-11 09:44 NEW YORK -- New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Sunday students will be safer than ever when they head back to class this fall. During his weekly radio address, the mayor pointed to progress that's been made in school safety over the last few years, according to a report available on www.ny1.com. Bloomberg said no student has the right to disrupt another student's learning, and parents should be confident their kids are in a safe environment. "Since our administration took office, major crime in schools is down by more than one-third, while violent crime has decreased some 31 percent," he said. "And, just this past year alone, major school crime declined 10 percent." |
