DPRK welcomes US delisting, lifting sanctions

Updated: 2008-06-27 23:10 PYONGYANG -- Pyongyang Friday welcomed Washington's decision to remove the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) from the US terrorism blacklist and lift some sanctions against the northeast Asian nation. The US decisions were positive, a DPRK foreign ministry spokesman told the official Korean Central News Agency, adding that the DPRK nuclear declaration was "complete and accurate." The US should drop its anti-DPRK policy, as it was that policy that drove the DPRK to possess the military deterrent in the first place, said the spokesman. He urged other parties concerned in the six-party talks, aimed at dismantling DPRK's nuclear program, to fulfil their commitments on economic assistance toward Pyongyang. The DPRK submitted a nuclear declaration to China, chair of the six-party talks on Thursday, a step considered "positive progress" in the Korean Peninsula denuclearization efforts. |
