WASHINGTON - A worker shot dead five colleagues in a plastic plant in the US state of Kentucky before killing himself, police said on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old killer working at the Atlantis Plastics plant in Henderson had "words with a supervisor" before going on a half-hour break on Tuesday night, and then he came back with a handgun, said Henderson police officer John Nevels.

Witness told police that they saw the supervisor and the shooter walk outside to together before hearing a gunshot. Shortly after that, the shooter came back inside the plant where he shot several others at random.

About 35 people were working in the plant at the overnight shift when the shooting incident took place, Nevels said.

The shooter and one of the victims pronounced dead on the spot, and four other victims died in hospital, police said, adding the sixth victim was expected to survive.

The identities of both the shooter and his victims have not yet been disclosed and an investigation has been conducted to determine the cause for the shootings.
