Pentagon to sell South Korea weapons valued at $200m

WASHINGTON -- The US department of defense said on Monday that it would sell South Korea munitions and weapons valued at US$200 million.

According to the department's Security Cooperation Agency, South Korea requested for the munitions and weapons to equip it F-15K fighters.

The contract, whose main provider would be Raytheon Co., includes 125 AIM-120C-7 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles;35 AGM-65G Maverick missiles; and 280 Joint Direct Attack Munitiontail kits, the Pentagon announced under the requirement of law.

The package also comprises two GBU-24, two GBU-10 and 32 GBU-12laser guided bomb units; RR-170 radar jamming chaff plus a range of bomb parts, spares and related support.

South Korea has said in April that it would purchase 21 F-15K fighters valued at 2.3 billion dollars, which are expected to be delivered between 2010 and 2012.
