JAKARTA  -- Indonesia's year on year inflation in May reached 10.38 percent, the National Statistic Bureau announced here Monday.

Head of the bureau Rusman Heriawan said the inflation rate in May was 1.41 percent.

The figure was driven by the hikes of prices of goods and services, which were indicated by the hike of their index, including unprocessed foods by 1.72 percent, processed foods, drinks, cigarette and tobacco 0.86 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel 1.58 percent, health 0.69 percent, education, recreation and sport 0.37 percent, and transport, communication and financial services 2.23 percent, he said.

The cumulative inflation rate by May was 5.47 percent, he said.

Inflation occurred in 37 out of 45 cities, said Heriawan.

Indonesia's government has increased inflation target this year to between 8.5 and 9.5 percent after the soaring global oil prices. But the country's central bank sees that the inflation may exceed 10 percent after the government raised oil prices by average of 28.7 percent two weeks ago.

Indonesia has also trimmed economic growth target from 6.8 to 6. 0 percent.
