Plane crash in Panama causes 12 deaths

PANAMA -- A helicopter crashed into a commercial building about 2 p.m. on Thursday in Panama city, causing the death of 12 persons, official sources said.

Jose Alejandro Bernales, general director of the Police (Carabineros) of Chile who was on board, was killed in the accident, the sources confirmed.

Bernales, 59, was in Panama for an official visit to attend a seminar of the National Police of that country when the tragedy happened.

The National TV of Chile said that three members of the crew and eight other passengers traveled in the helicopter. But the causes of the crash are not available now.
