Bus accident in Mexico kills 21

MEXICO CITY - At least 21 people were killed and many others injured Monday as a bus plunged off a mountain highway in San Agustin Metzquititlan municipality in the sate of Hidalgo, police said.

The Public Security Ministry said that the accident took place at 13:30  local time (1830 GMT). The bus from Estrella Blanca Company was heading for the Mexico City, as it tumbled off the road and plunged 150 meters into the ravine.

About 50 rescue members, members of the Federal Preventive Police (PFP), firemen and a helicopter went to help the victims.

The abrupt road made the rescue work difficult and it is feared that the number of deaths could rise. The police said the cause of the accident is under investigation.
