The president, in a grey shirt and pants, boarded a plane which took off about 7 am Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

About 15 family and friends had boarded the plane from the regular terminal 15 minutes earlier, according to a report of the Australian Associated Press from Darwin, the northern city of Australia.

Ramos-Horta was due to hold a press conference in Dili shortly after his arrival there.

The 58-year-old Nobel Laureate was shot twice outside his home on Feb. 11 and transferred to Darwin for medical treatment on the same day. Timor-Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao also was attacked, but escaped uninjured.
