A 14-year-old boy from Southeast Washington was killed Friday night in Prince George's County in US when the car he was riding in crashed into a concrete traffic barrier, county police said.

Ravon Eleby, 14, was a passenger in a silver Nissan Maxima that crashed about 9 p.m. on Kenilworth Avenue just beyond the border with the District, said Cpl. Arvel Lewis, a county police spokesman. Lewis said the car had been reported to D.C. police as having been stolen.

The driver, also a 14-year-old boy, and two other juveniles were injured, one critically.

Lewis said investigators believe that excessive speed and a slick road played a role in the crash. Authorities had been concerned Friday about possible icing on roads caused by freezing rain, drizzle and mist.

No one has been charged in the incident, which is under investigation, county police said.

Shameta McCloud, who identified herself as the mother of one of the injured passengers, said she lives near the site of the crash and saw a vehicle apparently being pursued by police shortly before the incident.

She said she later went to the crash scene, and she described the wrecked car as the one she thought was being pursued.

A D.C. police spokeswoman said the department's car theft unit was involved in the case. But the spokeswoman, Traci Hughes, said police were trying to determine whether the unit was involved before the crash.
