MEXICO CITY -- National Police in El Salvador said Tuesday that at least 22 people died and over hundred injured in different incidents and accidents on Christmas Eve, according to news reaching here.

The dead including 12 murdered, seven killed in road accidents, two for poisoning and one for drowning.

The murdered were 10 more than on a typical day in El Salvador, the police said.

Although the number of murders was high, overall injuries reduced, according to civil protection authorities.

There were 124 injured by gunshots, burns and other accidents this year, while in 2006 the number was 161.
