Fire burns Thai factory, staff locked inside(Xinhua)
Updated: 2007-11-29 19:34 BANGKOK -- A factory in central Thailand caught fire Thursday afternoon and intermittent blasts were heard, according to local media. The chemical plant, located in Thai central Samut Sakhon Province, caught fire at about 3 pm (0800 GMT). A witness told local radio FM 100 that at least four buildings of the factory have been burnt down completely one hour after the fire started. Fire engines and fighters, accompanied by ambulances, have been sent to the scene, but the flame was too raging to be put down by press time. Local police said many staff of the factory were still locked inside because the fire occurred during working hours. The fire also caused explosions, the source of which is not immediately known. It is not clear now whether there is any leak of chemical materials. |
