Underground water is unsafe

The shallow layer groundwater in China was heavily polluted in recent years from various pollution sources, Beijing News reported.

据《新京报》报道，近年来，在多种污染源作用下，我国浅层地下水污染严重。

Groundwater quality surveillance was conducted in 200 cities in China in 2011, and 55% of those monitoring spots showed bad or even worse water quality, according to an official survey. In several regions, reports about cancer cases and cattle and sheep's infertility caused by underground water pollution soared.

官方调查显示，2011年，全国200个城市开展了地下水质监测，其中"较差—极差"水质监测点比例为55%。此前，地下水污染导致癌症高发甚至牛羊绝育的报道，在诸多地区出现。

[污染控制投资不够]

 China's economy has developed rapidly over recent years, but investment into pollution control has not kept pace. Considering the fast pace of China's economic development, investment into pollution control should account for more than 2% of GDP, according to Wang Canfa, a professor at the China University of Political Science and Law.

中国政法大学教授王灿发说，我们国家的经济发展迅速，但是治理污染的投资却跟不上。像我们这么快的经济发展速度，控制污染方面的投入应当占到GDP的2%以上。
