Lang registered to be a torch bearer on pengyou.com, a social networking Web site run by Tencent, which is running the virtual torch relay.

The virtual relay had attracted more than 41.7 million students from 90 percent of China’s universities by Friday, according to the Games organizing committee.

Another 2 million people had registered to be members of a cheer team.

“In my capacity as ambassador for the Games and the online torch relay, I’m obliged to do my best to promote the Universiade and Shenzhen,” Lang said at a press conference Friday.

“At the end of each performance, I tell the audience about the Universiade and call on them to be a part of it,” he said.

“I’m still waiting to see whether I’ll be performing at the opening or closing ceremonies,” he said.

Lang Lang will also run in the physical torch relay slated for Aug. 7.

About Shenzhen

Shenzhen is located at the southern tip of the Chinese mainland on the eastern bank of the mouth of the Pearl River and neighbors Hong Kong.

The brainchild of Deng Xiaoping, the country's first special economic zone was established here by the Chinese Government in 1980. It has been a touchstone for China's reform and opening-up policy since then.
