Henin, who received a wild card entry, beat 27th-seeded Alisa Kleybanonva 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Henin was just one point away from being a set and 4-1 down, but broke back in fifth game to get herself back in the match.

The 27-year-old Henin is two tournaments into a comeback to the tour, having lost the Brisbane International final to Kim Clijsters two weeks ago. Henin retired in May 2008 while holding the No. 1 ranking, but announced her return to the tour in September after watching Clijsters win the U.S. Open only three tournaments into a tour comeback.
