WASHINGTON -- Golden State Warriors have extended the contract with captain Stephen Jackson, the NBA team announced on Monday.

"We're excited to have Stephen under contract for the next several years. He has embraced this opportunity with the Warriors and has become a leader," said Warriors president Robert Roswell.

The veteran forward, averaging 19.1 points in 121 games with Golden State since moving in from Indiana Pacers in January of 2007, now plays a league-high 43.4 minutes a game in the fast-paced attack of the Warriors.

Golden State is off to a 4-6 start, while Jackson averages 22.1 points and 6.4 assists this season.

"I'm extremely happy. The Bay Area has become my second home since I arrived here in 2007 and I can accurately describe how good it feels to be wanted and appreciated by an organization," Jackson said.
