Devils 3, Penguins 0

At East Rutherford, New Jersey, Martin Brodeur made 26 saves for his 85th career shutout and New Jersey beat Pittsburgh.

Travis Zajac scored early in the second period, and Jay Pandolfo and Brian Gionta added insurance goals late in the third.

Brodeur earned his fifth shutout this season and moved into sole possession of third place on the career list, one ahead of Glenn Hall.

The win was only the third in eight games for the Atlantic Division-leading Devils, who ended a three-game losing streak on home ice.

It was a frustrating night for Sidney Crosby and the Penguins. The NHL's leading scorer had his 10-game point streak snapped as Pittsburgh lost its fourth straight. Islanders 2, Rangers 0=

At Uniondale, New York, Rick DiPietro stopped 28 shots for his third consecutive shutout at home, and the New York Islanders got goals from Arron Asham and Jason Blake in a 2-0 victory over the slumping Rangers.

DiPietro extended his home shutout streak to 185:43 in his 10th career shutout and fourth this season. The last goal he allowed at Nassau Coliseum came with 43 seconds left in regulation of a 2-1 shootout win against Florida on December 9.

The Rangers have lost six straight following a five-game winning streak.

The Islanders also improved to 3-0 against their crosstown rivals this month. The last time they won three consecutive regular-season games in one season against the Rangers was in 1997-98.

 Blackhawks 2, Stars 1

At Chicago, Denis Arkhipov and Martin Lapointe each scored a power-play goal, and Nikolai Khabibulin made 20 saves to lead Chicago past Dallas.

The Blackhawks snapped an 0-for-18 power-play slump that spanned four games.

Stu Barnes scored for the Stars and Marty Turco made 22 saves in losing for only the second time in his career to Chicago. He is 11-1-2 against the Blackhawks. Blue Jackets 5, Bruins 4, OT

At Columbus, Ohio, David Vyborny scored his second goal with 1:54 left in overtime and Columbus rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat Boston.

With the Blue Jackets on a two-man advantage, Sergei Fedorov tied the score at 4 with his second goal of the game with only 23 seconds left in regulation. It came on a pass from Vyborny. Jason Chimera also scored for Columbus.

Patrice Bergeron extended his point streak to nine games with a goal and an assist for Boston.

Brad Boyes, Wayne Primeau and Stanislav Chistov also scored for the Bruins, who tried to hang onto their lead behind 19 third-period saves by Tim Thomas.
