Iraqi boxer cries in Doha Asiad

Iraqi boxer Suraka Mahdi sobbed after losing to a Filipino in Sunday's preliminary round of 57kg category boxing competition in Doha Asiad.

"The referee was not fair to me," he said, noting that "he gave a lot of points against me and despite what Iraq is going through nowadays.

"My players was not happy because easy points were given to our the Filipino guy. My guy threw punches which did not earn points," said Ali Abdlzahra, coach of the Iraqi boxing team.

"Our situation in Iraq is very hard. We have trained for the last three weeks in Kuwait," he said.

Another Iraqi boxer, Majeed Mutushr lost either on Sunday in the 51kg category with a similar suspension defeat prior to the fourth round.

He told the Arabic press at the arena that he was too tired to compete in the game.

Later on Sunday, Chinese boxer Yang Bo grabbed a 20-7 victory on point over his opponent, Nhothin Holapatiphone of the Laos, while his teammate, Xie Longwang lost 16-10 on point to Enkhzorig Zorigtbaatar of Mongolia.

Xie, who defeated Athens Olympic bronzist Jo Seok Hwan of South Korea Saturday, was unable to near his opponent who overwhelmed the Chinese hopeful with ripping combinations of hooks as well as a jolting jab.

Chung Chunan, a young boxer of Chinese Taipei, claimed a 28-11 win over his Thai rival Sailom Adi who beat Hong Tin Pan from Macao of China on Saturday.
