In her autobiography, Dame Helen Mirren goes into frank detail about her past.

But the cover of In The Frame is a little more inclined to gloss over the truth.

The lines and wrinkles on the 62-year-old actress's face have been airbrushed away, along with the veins on her hands.

It is, admittedly, a painless alternative to cosmetic surgery, which Dame Helen has always steadfastly rejected.

At this year's Oscars, where she picked up the best actress award for her title role in The Queen, Dame Helen said of the prospect of going under the surgeon's knife: "I'm not fond of all those needles and scalpels. I'll try to get away with make-up, jewellery and a nice frock."
