JD allied with AR industry partners including Intel, Wal-Mart, Vipshop, Lenovo, and Carslan to establish the first AR Unbounded Innovation Alliance in China at a launch ceremony held in Beijing on May 21, according to local media.

The e-commerce operator is committed to using AR technology for new online and offline shopping scenes to add freshness and fun for its customers through augmented reality visual experience.

JD also released AR hardware products such as AR makeup mirrors, AR fitting mirrors and AR smart glasses, and announced the full launch of its AR lines.

Dr Li Kefeng, deputy president of JD Group, announced JD AR’s “122” strategy.

The strategy will integrate the company’s own technological capabilities and upstream ecological resources, and, using a comprehensive enabling system of platform empowerment, terminal empowerment and marketing empowerment, integrate both online and offline shopping scenarios to enhance customers’ shopping experience and boost the innovation and development of the retail industry.

According to a report released by GfK, a world-famous market research institution, AR technology characterized by virtual reality integration will become one of the core technologies widely used and rapidly developed in the industry. The market demand of the retail industry and the demand for online and offline consumer experience upgrades will greatly promote development of AR applications, with e-commerce their main delivery scenario.

JD entered AR e-commerce in 2016 seeking to become a leader domestically. After two years of rapid development, JD AR has built a comprehensive system with rich capabilities. It boasts capabilities such as face recognition and image tracking, and has launched AR products such as real shopping and virtual fitting on JD.com.
