BAIC BJEV charges up to top electric carmaker

The leading new energy electromobile producer BAIC BJEV announced on Jan 9 that its sales in 2017 reached 103,199 with a year-on-year increase of 98 percent, making the company China's champion of electric car sales.

Zheng Gang, general manager of BAIC BJEV, a subsidiary of BAIC Group based in Zhongguancun Science Park, used the word "leader" to describe the company's achievements in 2017.

Zheng said, "These outstanding achievements last year not only show that our company is a leader of China's new energy industry but also represent the capability and competitiveness of Chinese new energy cars in the global market."

By the end of 2017, BAIC BJEV had participated in the installment of 46,000 public charging poles and 32,000 private ones. The company added 235 outlets in 2017, creating the country's biggest network of new energy vehicles.

The company also launched a brand new strategy of "open and sharing". "During the period from 2018 to 2025, BAIC BJEV will implement an overall sharing strategy in fields of technology, R&D, manufacturing, capital, supply chains and markets," said Zheng Gang.

BAIC BJEV will use the Beijing New Energy Vehicle Technology Innovation Center as a platform, sharing resources in seven core technical fields, such as intelligent networks, fuel cells and power batteries.

China is the world's largest auto market and also the fastest-growing market for new energy vehicles. Sales of new energy vehicles in China in 2013 stood at 17,600 units. The figure soared to 609,000 units in the first 11 months of 2017.
