Zhao Haijun, pioneer of integrated circuitry in China

Zhao Haijun, vice president of Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) in E-town, won the “Innovative and Entrepreneur Talents Project• E-town Kylin” award on February 2.

Zhao returned from Singapore to work in SMIC in 2010. SMIC is one of the leading semiconductor foundries in the world and the largest and most advanced foundry in mainland China. As an expert in semiconductor operation and technology research, Zhao owns 2 patents in the US, and another 2 are in application. He has been working in this area for 21 years, and has published 9 professional papers. Zhao is seen as the pioneer of integrated circuitry in China.

At the award ceremony, Zhao said that his achievements relied on the team of SMIC and the support of the government. He wished to take every opportunity to take SMIC to a higher level, and make it a top three company in the integrated circuit industry around the world.

Zhao took over the operation work of SMIC in 2011 when the company was facing a series of problems. He undertook several new policies to promote the development of the company, including encouraging innovation, tapping production potential, optimizing the structure, improving governance and efficiency, and improving customer service quality.

With the effort of Zhao and his team, SMIC remained the top integrated circuit market company in China, and among the top companies globally. In 2015, SMIC’s Beijing branch provided 3,000 jobs and brought in revenue of 4.5 billion yuan.
