A delegation led by Tan Juntie, mayor of the city of Meizhou, paid a visit to the county of Dabu, Guangdong province, on Oct 25 to look at the region’s Beautiful Countryside Campaign.
Accompanied by other officials, Tan visited a number of Chaozhou-style dwellings, including Tin Ka Ping's Ancestral Home and Li Guangyao’s Ancestral Home, as well as Taoyuan Town Central Primary School.
During the discussion session, Lin Jianxiong, secretary of the Dabu Party committee, gave a report on the county’s economic and social development. He said that in the first nine months of 2013, Dabu’s GDP increased by 10.5 percent to 4 billion yuan ($724 million), and total export value reached $130 million.
Tan was impressed by the great achievement of the Beautiful Countryside Campaign. He commented that the local government should develop competitive industries, create more job opportunities, and increase investment in welfare, education and health care.
He went on to say that more efforts should be put toward reducing air pollutants, protecting the county’s ecosystem, and developing eco-tourism and culture tourism.
