The China-Northeast Asia Expo–previously known as the China Jilin Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo - is now enjoying more influence, and it covers more regions, contains more exciting events, and receives more senior level visitors, Huo Jianguo, head of the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation said in an interview on May 28.

The expo is far more than an important platform for economic and trade communication and cooperation, as it also serves as a crucial opportunity for China to deepen its domestic reform and accelerate its opening up to foreign countries.

The expo has been upgraded to a national-level event this year, following the role it played in promoting economic and trade cooperation during the past eight years. As the situation in northeastern Asia becomes increasingly complicated, the expo is required to serve as a larger cooperation platform between China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Japan and Russia.

Huo said that the China-Northeast Asia Expo, as a national-level expo, now has more responsibilities, especially due to the participation of government officials from different countries in northeast Asia, which will lead to increased communication between governments, and strengthen economic and trade cooperation. Huo also said that he expected to see further expansion and deepening in regional cooperation, forming a fast -developing, open and competitive environment that will be attractive for the five other participating countries.

One of the activities during the expo concerns human communication, and Huo said that – unlike the previous cultural communication, which has a clearer definition - human communication is a more complex concept, involving society, nationality, culture and living customs. Thus, contact among people will make it easier to strengthen the friendship among countries, and to form a sound harmonious foundation, which will lead to friendly relations in the northeast Asia region.

Huo added that there is great potential for development in northeast Asia, and it is therefore necessary to increase the diversity of the exhibitors, by attracting foreign investors from Europe, the United States and Southeastern Asia, and also by inviting large domestic enterprises to take part in the expo.

In addition, the China-Northeast Asia Expo will also exert its influence on the political level by strengthening the economic and trade cooperation among these countries so that they can all benefit from their advantages, promoting peace and harmony in this region and tackling disagreements.
