The first flight from Beijing to Guizhou's Bijie landed at Bijie Feixiong Airport on June 16, 2013, marks the officially putting into operation of Feixiong Airport.

The construction of Bijie Feixiong Airport began in September 2009. On May 29, 2013, the airport passed inspection and was put into operation.

Traffic and communication are the main factors impeding the social and economic development of Bijie because of Bijie's mountainous location. The opening of Feixiong Airport will help build Bijie as a regional center city and important transportation hub in the intersection of Sichuan, Chongqiong and Guizhou.

Bijie boasts a lot of famous tourism attractions such as Zhijindong Cave and the Baili Azalea Area. The opening of Feixiong Airport will provide stronger hardware facilities for the development of the local tourism industry and bring more tourists to Bijie and Guizhou, said Qin Rupei, vice-governor of Guzhou province.

Feixiong Airport will open several new air routes in the following months including Bijie-Guangzhou in June and Shanghai-Bijie-Kunming in July.
