Quiet clapper music of Longyan is a unique art form that originated in 1901 in the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It became widely popular in urban and rural areas of Longyan city, Fujian, and thus constituted a regional culture with folk characteristics.
The music can be played by a band ranging from five to six people to dozens or even hundreds of people. Various kinds of musical instruments are played during a performance, which is based on silk-stringed musical instruments and many native homemade instruments. There are 45 recognized songs in total.
