The Suzhou Arts Museum will host an international sculpture exhibition in its new hall from May 15 to May 30. It is said to be the most crucial international sculpture exhibition of its kind ever held in the museum since the opening of the museum hall.
The exhibition, under the title of “Dialogue with the Terracotta Warriors-the Nominated Exhibition of Works of Sculptures from China and European Union”, will bring the sculpture works of top-tier artists from 27 countries across the European Union, including Britain, France, Germany and Greece to Suzhou’s local visitors.
The exhibition has been listed by the Ministry of Culture of China as a key item for the “China-EU Culture Dialogue Year 2012” and granted the title of “a unified logo of the Dialogue Year” by the culture commission of the European Union.
It features 30 pieces of sculpture works. Some of them are realistic in style while others are abstract. The works come in varied materials, ranging from bronze to steel and glass. The artists are trying to demonstrate their understanding of the “Terracotta Warriors” in China by using different arts languages and presentation skills.
It is a tour exhibition, with Suzhou as the third stop in China. The exhibition will move into arts museums in countries across Europe after it shows in China. All the sculpture works will be auctioned after the exhibition tour is over and the money raised from the auction will be used to establish an arts fund for children.
