Riverdance Troupe, the well-known Irish tap dance group, will perform Jan 19 to Jan in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, following an impressive debut at last year's CCTV Spring Festival Gala.

Created by Moya Hoherty in 1994, Riverdance gained international fame after its debut in 1995.

"Based on the original Irish tap dances, Riverdance has also borrowed features from classical Ballet, Russian folk dances, American tap dances, Spanish flamenco and Argentina's tango during the 15 years since its debut," said Brendan, the production manager of Riverdance.

He asked audiences "not to wear formal clothes" to the show. "Wearing casual clothes can help you be more into the performance," he said.

"My own enthusiasm for dance and the passion from the audience are what keep me so passionate after so many years on the stage," a dancer named Aisilnn told China Daily.

The Chengdu Performing Group, the show's organizer in China, added two more performances after 70 percent of tickets for the first show sold quickly.
