CHENGDU: The first national forum on city newspapers was held on Monday in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, co-hosted by the Chinese Newspaper Association (CNA) and Sichuan Newspaper Group.

With a theme of "Responsibility, Innovation and Integration", the forum also marked the 15th anniversary of the founding of the country's first city newspaper — the West China City Daily. More than 200 chief editors from leading domestic city newspapers attended the meeting to discuss emerging trends.

With the rapid development of the Internet and wide use of personal recording devices, the traditional newspaper industry is encountering great challenges. "Integration of the Media" turned out to be the hottest topic at the forum.

"We are now in a time of crisis. But according to Webster's Dictionary, the crisis means a situation in which one needs to make big choices, and we shall decide to change our outdated habits or let them deteriorate," Yu Guoming, vice president of the Journalism School at Renmin University of China, told China Daily.

Twelve city newspapers voted "most trusted" by the Chinese Newspaper Association received awards at the forum.
