Singaporean fashion designer Wykidd Song holds up a sample of his APEC Singapore 2009 leaders' attire in Singapore October 28, 2009. Singapore will present the 21 APEC leaders with the customary leaders' attire when they arrive here in November 2009. Inspired by Peranakan houses and tiles, the attire's main flower motif has 21 petals to represent the 21 APEC economies and is designed as something that can be worn long after the Apec meetings. SINGAPORE: Singapore unveiled on Wednesday the design of the customary leaders' attire for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in November.

The APEC Singapore 2009 leaders' attire is designed by Singaporean Wykidd Song and taken from the inspiration of the Peranakan culture, which reflects Singapore's identity as a multi-racial and multi-cultural society.

The dress has a lotus design with 21 petals, which represent the 21 APEC economies. The design maintains the traditional style of craftsmanship and takes on a modern interpretation of the detailing found in the Peranakan culture's artifacts and architecture.

The color of the dress takes reference from the official colors of the APEC Singapore 2009 logo. Male leaders of APEC economies will be choosing from three colors, namely blue, red or green. Female leaders will be presented with the red attire, with a lot more elaborate embroidery and lacing details.

Linen and silk will be used for the male and female leaders' attire respectively. The fabrics are made of natural fibres that are light and breathable and suitable for Singapore's climate.

The attire will also come with accessories. Male leaders will be presented with a set of round-shaped cufflinks made of sterling silver featuring either blue topaz, red rhodolite or green peridotprecious gem, while female leaders will presented with a brooch made of sterling silver and features a red rhodolite precious gem.

The attire will be worn by APEC leaders during the group photo-taking session on Nov. 14 at the Esplanade theater for the Singapore Evening musical gala. The leaders will be wearing the attire throughout the Singapore Evening.
