The recent tragedies in primary schools and kindergartens have sounded the alarm bell. It is high time we strengthened security in and around schools to ensure the safety of students and teachers, says an article in the Beijing News. Excerpts:

Of all the violent crimes, those committed against innocent children is the most disturbing, for they violate a fragile social group that needs our care and protection. The recent bloodsheds in primary schools have raised the alarm for stricter school security.

In order to prevent the recurrence of such tragedies, the shared values of all modern societies must be reconfirmed among the people. The society we live in may have some problems, but that does not grant anyone the right to criminal action to slaughter innocent people, especially when his victims belong to disadvantaged groups of children and old people.

School administrators should also be more careful in their security measures, and clear out possible deficiencies. Only through both ways can peace and security be enjoyed by the pupils, the future and hope of our race.
