Almost everyone is striving for a better life, but there are those who have lost confidence in themselves after meeting difficulties or failures. Such people need society's urgent attention, says an article in the People's Daily. Excerpts:
A new term, "sandwiched group", is being used to describe people who strive for a better life, but have met with difficulties or failures. These people belong to a stratum between the elite and grassroots.
The term refers rather to a kind of psychological state. Many people, some even from elite groups, have lost their confidence after failing or meeting with difficulties in their endeavors. Since their efforts have not brought about the expected rewards, they cannot find their place in society.
Such people deserve society's special attention, because they can have a negative influence on others. The government should do more to encourage them to strive for a better life in order to build a harmonious and stable society.
