Comment on "Death to the death sentence" (China Daily, April 28)

Depending on the severity of the case, the death penalty should be imposed once the crime is established and proven beyond doubt and the party is guilty of it.

Serious Corruption, like drug is addictive and equally bad for society. A deterrent sentence, like the death penalty should be meted out. To give a life sentence is prolonging the agony to the prisoner, his family and a burden to tax payers.

All serious crimes should be fully investigated, no stone unturned and the learned Judges involved must carry out their responsibility judiciously without fear or favour and only when they are convinced that everything is accounted for should they decide on the death penalty.

Maybe China's high body should review all the procedures and laws and determine which of the crimes should have the death penalty or capital punishment. Reviews and correct changes should help to improve China's image.

Nevertheless, the death penalty should be maintained for serious crimes that resulted in deaths or likely to cause deaths and sufferings to many.
