The construction of Lancang civil airport will greatly improve transportation in Yunnan province and accelerate exploration of tourism resources, according to Qian Dewei, mayor of Pu’er, at a coordination meeting of airport construction on May 8.

Its presence and opening-up, as well as the sound and fast development of the frontier minority regional economy and society will be boosted when the airport opens, he said.

He noted that all the participants of construction should cooperate to promote the project and ensure its timely completion with a high sense of responsibility, since less developed transportation hinders the pace of Pu’er’s development.

A management organization has been set up to guide the project and other tasks, such as construction of supporting facilities surrounding the airport. A test session project will start in mid-May.

Lancang civil airport, located in Lancang county’s Donghui town, is a domestic branch airline in Southwest China’s Yunnan province.

Construction was approved by the State Council and the Cenetal Military Commission of the Party on January 13, 2013.
