Celebrate the Chinese Year in Lugu Lake

Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, is a very important traditional holiday celebrated at the turn of the Chinese calendar.

Celebrating Chinese New Year in a warm place is definitely a good choice for visitors. Southwest China's Lugu Lake is one of the best vacation destinations for visitors in winter thanks to the warm weather and beautiful scenery.

Lugu Lake is a plateau lake with an elevation of 2,690.75 meters. It’s the highest lake in Yunnan province. The lake has a total area of 48 square kilometers and an average depth of 45 meters. The lake's shores are inhabited by many ethnic groups, including Tibetans, the Mosuo, the Naxi and the Pumi. It takes about six hours to drive from Lijiang ancient town to Lugu Lake.

Apart from the beautiful scenery, visitors will have a chance to try the special local cuisines around the lake. It has been mentioned earlier that the lake is inhabited by many minority ethnic groups. Different ethnic groups have different traditional foods, which makes Lugu Lake a paradise for food lovers. Preserved pork, the most famous traditional food of Lugu Lake, is strongly recommended. It is also known as lute-shaped pork. In the winter, the local Mosuo people preserve the pork with pepper and salt. The perfectly preserved pork will not go bad for several years. For Chinese people, meat and alcohol are the perfect union. When it comes to the alcohol in Lugu Lake, Sulima wine has to be mentioned. It is a traditional homemade wine of the Mosuo and Pumi people. Sulima wine is yellow and has low alcohol content. Mosuo and Pumi people like to host their guests with Sulima wine since it can help increase appetite.
