According to an announcement made by Ruan Fengbing, deputy mayor of Kunming, on Feb 28, Kunming is going to hold the 8th China International Logistics Week in May. Nearly a hundred enterprises from Southeast Asia have confirmed participation. Laos and Thailand will send governmental delegations to take part in the event.

Ruan said that the event aims to improve cooperation in the logistics field within the China-AEASN Free Trade Zone. It will also help the logistics sector of Chinese mainland to develop with its own characteristics while being brought up to the international practice.

Qian Yongchang, president of China Communications and Transportation Association, attended the press conference held by the event’s organizing committee in Beijing on Feb 28.

He said, “China’s logistics industry has been developing rapidly in recent years, but it is still noticeably lagging behind the best international practice. One of the major subjects of study for our association this year is to help strong domestic logistics companies reach out to the world. It is our hope that this year’s Logistics Week can serve as a springboard to lift those companies to higher level of internationalization.”

It is reported that the theme of this year’s event is “International Logistics—the forefront and development”. The event will focus on the internationalization of logistics, discussing and sharing information concerning development patterns, successful experience and important innovations in this area.

Besides participation in activities such as the “Global Forum on Logistics” and “Summit on implementing the Bridgehead Strategy of Kunming”, all the participants are arranged to visit the “Great International Passage” from Kunming to Bangkok.
