A delegation from the American chamber of commerce in China visited the Toutunhe Economic and Development Zone (TEDZ), Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on June 22.

The delegation, which included businesspeople involved in sino-foreign ventures covering areas such as technology, agriculture and healthcare, took a tour of the zone in order to find out more about the area and hopefully develop further economic ties.

The zone, which has a population of 320,000 and is located in the northwest of Urumqi, is the most important advanced manufacturing base in the region. It has convenient transport links to Urumqi’s high-speed railway and international airport.

During the 12th Five Year Plan (2011-15) period, the zone achieved a GDP of 189.9 billion yuan ($28.37 billion), as well as other economic milestones.

The delegates found the zone’s growth momentum, geographical advantages and preferential policies appealing and expressed their intention to cooperate with enterprises located in the zone in more areas in the future.
