Law publicity enhances students' legal awareness

The justice bureau of the Economic and Technological Development Zone in Urumqi city, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region gave lectures on legal institutions at Xinjiang Iron and Steel School together with more than 500 law books to students on March 4, the uetd.gov.cn reported.

Xu Chun, deputy professor of the law department at Xinjiang University, was invited to give the lectures. Xu pointed out the characteristics and psychology of juveniles and explained the motives and consequences of juvenile delinquency based on real cases.

Xu taught students to enhance their awareness of law, learn to tell right from wrong and to use the law to protect themselves.

The lectures received a warm response from the students. A student called Luo Hongli said she gained understanding of the law from the lectures and resolved to observe it and learn more about it.

Xinjiang Iron and Steel School, a vocational school, holds four days of activities such as lectures, quizzes and acting contests every year at the beginning of each semester in order to publicize legal knowledge and ethnic unity, and to teach students to resist illegal religious activities, according to Miao Xuyan, Party chief of the school.

 Zhu Jianping, vice director of the justice bureau, said that giving students law lectures and books will help them grasp basic legal knowledge and prevent and reduce juvenile delinquency.
