Urumqi development zone impresses foreign guests

Some foreign delegates who had arrived from over 30 countries and international organizations visited the Economic and Technological Development Zone in Urumqi city, Xinjiang on Aug 17.

During the visit, the guests were taken around the high-speed railway station, where Hou Bingdong, the dean of China Institute at University of Alberta, Canada said, "It used to take me more than 50 hours to arrive in Urumqi from Xi'an city (Shaanxi province) by train. However, the new means of transportation, such as high speed railway makes it so easier to reach Urumqi."

After the tour of a plant belonging to Xinjiang Goldwind Science and Technology Co., Victor, a scholar of Russian Academy of Sciences reacted, "I had never known that Xinjiang produces wind turbines." He continued to add that Xinjiang is rich in wind power and solar energy, which provides great opportunities for the region to develop sustainable energy.

More than 100 people from home and abroad have gathered to participate in the 2015 China Xinjiang Development Forum, which kicked off on Aug 18 in Urumqi. They focused on discussing the challenges and opportunities for Xinjiang arisen by the Silk Road Economic Belt.
