Popular night markets in Shenyang

Summer is a great time for people visiting night markets -- to enjoy all the bustling sights and sounds of commerce amid the balmy evening air -- and with all the incentives recently introduced by the municipal government to drive the local economy, the night markets of Shenyang, capital of Northeast China's Liaoning province, have become increasingly popular.

Here are some recommended night markets that are proving particularly popular among Shenyang locals:

1. Dahai Street night market

Dahai Street night market, which opened on July 1 and runs to Oct 8, is open from 16:30 to 23:00 hrs. It includes food stalls and children's play areas. Each Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, errenzhuan -- a popular two-person musical dance and song performance in Northeast China -- is staged.

2. Shengjing night market

Shengjing night market runs to Aug 10, with more than 3,000 shops providing food and fun. Visitors can enjoy food, taste beer, view intangible cultural heritage performances and buy cultural and creative products there.

3. Fengtian Alley

This commercial alley features elements from the Republic of China (1912-1949). It is particularly popular among fashionable young people.
